ESA Trainees Committee - Work opportunities for Anaesthesia trainees in the UK
Dear colleagues,
Please share this two great work opportunities with your national trainees:
"Fellowship in Perioperative Medicine at Barts and the Barts Heart Centre in February 2017
The Barts Heart Centre is the biggest Cardiac unit in the UK. Our academic departments in cardiac anaesthesia and (especially) Cardiac and Advanced Intensive Care Medicine are the biggest in the country.
Our salaried fellowship programme is prestigious, competitive and usually oversubscribed.
It will imminently be the first ESA accredited Fellowship programme in the UK.
Through extraordinary circumstance (significant expansion in funded posts, opening of 3 additional theatres, 3 additional Cath labs and 16 additional Level 3 ITU beds), we now have several openings in February 2017.
These are targeting senior trainees and colleagues can come for either 6 months, or thereafter stay for additional 3 to 6 months intervals and make use of our career progression programme (senior fellow, Locum Consultant), provided their skills progress commensurately.
We will provide opportunities in most fields of interest, such as TEE, research, teaching, simulation, ECMO etc
We have a good track record of furthering our Fellows' careers and our graduates have gone on to take up senior jobs in many countries.
Any interested colleagues please get in touch asap with our Fellowship Programme leads, Drs Mary White (Mary.White@bartshealth.nhs.uk) and Roger Cordery (Roger.Cordery@bartshealth.nhs.uk)
Preference is being given to trainees from Australia, Austria, Canada, France, Germany, Norway, the U.K., South Africa and the United States."
"Rotation in Adult Critical Care Unit at the Royal London Hospital for Trainees
The posts are intended to provide critical care experience in an acute adult critical care unit providing both HDU and ITU level care, to anaesthetic and non-anaesthetic trainees who will have the opportunity to participate in educational activities, training, audit and research within the department of Critical Care Medicine. We offer 3, 6 and 12 months rotational posts.
The Royal London Hospital (RLH) forms part of Barts and The London NHS Trust. The ACCU (Adult Critical Care Unit ) is a 44 bedded critical care unit in the brand new hospital into which the Royal London moved in December 2011. The ACCU accepts referrals for medical and surgical patients requiring level 2 and 3 care. The hospital receives tertiary referrals for a number of Medical Specialties including Neurology, Gastroenterology, Hepatology, Renal and Stroke Medicine, as well as surgical specialties such as hepatobiliary surgery, upper and lower GI tract surgery, major vascular, maxillofacial and ENT surgery.
The RLH is the base hospital for the London’s Helicopter Emergency Medical Service (HEMS) and the NE London Stroke Referral Unit. The Accident & Emergency Department caters for over 100,000 patients every year.

Έτσι, το πρώτο  Focus Meeting της ESA θα γίνει στην Αθήνα στις 14-15 Νοεμβρίου του 2014, με θέμα: «ESA Focus Meeting on Peri-Operative Medicine: the Paediatric Patient».

Dear Council member,

I wish to inform you that the Board of the European Society of Anaesthesiology (ESA) sent a letter to the European Journal of Anaesthesiology (EJA) and to the journal Endoscopy announcing the retraction of the ESA endorsment of the guideline on  Non-Anaesthesiologists Administration of Propofol  for Gastrointestinal endoscopy which was published simultaneously in Eur J Anaesthesiol 2010; 27:1016-1030 and Endoscopy 2010; 42:960-974. This retraction was a consequence of the motion presented and approved by the majority of active members present and voting during the ESA General Assembly  held in Amsterdam on June 15th, 2011.
